Alversa Brewster Milan was raised in St. Louis, Missouri where she graduated from Vashon High School. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy from The University of Kansas. She and her husband raised their family of four children while working in their respective fields and advocating for the disenfranchised through community service. She helped organize The Children's Hour, a pre-school for children from disadvantaged homes, in Lawrence, Kansas. She also helped organize Mother to Mother Ministry, a not-for-profit organization serving mothers raising children on limited resources, in Kansas City, Kansas. Her philosophy of life is: No matter how little you have, there is still enough to share.
